Vinča culture is the official term, but in the article I argue why it should be considered as Europe’s first civilization. The idea that a sophisticated civilization existed thousands of years before the Minoans isn’t always accepted in academia or a more pro-Western leaning school of thought. Much of the pushback that “Vinča symbols” could be a script is also based on entrenched beliefs.
