After her death, her stepson Thutmose III spent years systematically erasing her legacy.

He chiseled her image from temple walls, toppled her statues, and replaced her name with his own.

It was not until 2007 that archaeologists finally identified Hatshepsut's mummy, thanks to a single loose tooth discovered in a canopic box bearing her name.
