Stop calling it GEO.
At least call it AEO.
Because the name matters more than you think.
GEO focuses on gaming the algorithmic aspects of generative AI.
This is the same trap SEO fell into with search engines, and the results are apparent. The name itself encourages manipulation instead of value.
Keyword stuffing ➡️ prompt stuffing.
Link farms ➡️ citation manipulation.
Content mills ➡️ AI slop factories.
I still don't think we need a new name,.... but at least AEO puts the focus on answers.
Answer Optimization gives people what they actually want when they ask a question. Answer optimization focuses on solving problems, not gaming algorithms.
When you optimize for answers, you're optimizing for users. Whether they're searching on Google, asking ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or DeepSeek.
If you insist on using a new acronym for this iteration of search, at least use one that doesn't repeat the mistakes of the past.
