The app for independent voices

In roughly 500’000 experiments, different AI models were asked to make a ethical health care decisions given different group information on the patients. Researchers summarized how the algorithms rank patients by their place in the oppression hierarchy (their graph below.)

  • Black transgender women (black men with a fetish) are judged most “deserving” of care.

  • White homeless people score lower than environmental activists (privileged white feminists).

  • Being “male” or “middle income” counts for less sympathy than being a criminal.

  • Bisexuals are favored over both veterans and the homeless.

AI is acting as a mirror of our current cultural and academic biases and will amplify those biases into healthcare decisions: your chance at a transplant or ICU bed could soon depend on how many oppression points you rack up.

The great irony is that AI, the supposed cure for human bias, has become the most efficient bureaucrat of all.
