Breaking: Zelenskyy fires Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and replaces him with General Mykhailo Drapatyi, who had been publicly supportive of ousted defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
The only question now is whether Fedorov will get his job back; he had not accepted a position to be a miltech czar, reportedly only wanting his own job back.
But many of the protesters had concentrated their ire on Syrskyi, and now, they won. It remains to be seen whether there will be momentum for Fedorov to be reinstated, too, or whether this will be victory enough. Syrskyi was really quite loathed, and protesters punned that his name “Syr” means cheese in Ukrainian/Russian, and made signs accordingly, with mice, etc.
