Many of the writers I support are not native English speakers, and many are neurodivergent writers who find written expression especially difficult.
Gen AI has given them a way to access the ideas they already have but could not easily communicate. The shift in confidence is profound and swift. It’s an amazing transformation to witness.
As Rebecca notes, we have to consider how issues of access and power have systematically eroded that confidence and limit access, and what is at stake for voices so often marginalized when we culturally police the use of AI in writing.
Honestly, the accusations “You used AI” or “Why did you use AI?” feel like a luxury debate to me. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I don’t care if someone uses AI in their writing. I use AI in mine.
What I care about is whether I can still hear your voice. Whether I can still feel you in the writing.
