Last night I was reading my book at the bar and they brought over this tiny reading lamp, which felt like a forehead kiss

The Easter Triduum never felt more real to me than in the month of August 2020. I was crying on my late husband’s hospice bed, begging for the cup to pass. I laid in his dying his arms as if on the cross. I felt the abandonment of close friends. I buried him. I begged for the resurrection that came in bits and pieces. These coming days are so precious to me. I can’t wait to walk with Jesus through his passion, just like he walked with me through mine.

- The Francisco Lindor slow start to the regular season is not something that comes as a surprise anymore. But that still doesn’t make said stretches any easier to watch as they happen.

Israel's longest running paper, Haaretz, just confirmed that Netanyahu actively blocked every hostage deal since 10/7, Netanyahu meanwhile is openly planning to annex Gaza—& the conversation is still "why won't Hamas agree to a deal?"😐
We have to stop arming Netanyahu. He doesn’t even care about his own people. I am disgusted. I thought that was a tenet of Judaism to which everyone subscribed—that a human life is of incalculable value.
I understand Israel’s fears, but their behavior, or Netanyahu’s I should say , is creating more enemies. All the people of Gaza and Lebanon who did not hate Israel will now.
The Oct. 7 massacre was obscene, but Netanyahu had been funding Hamas, and surely he knew there was a plot afoot? I assume he actually wanted things to escalate so he could take whatever extreme measures he fancied and whip all the people involved into a frenzy . I am so sad.
If you want to know why I have a paid subscription to Haaretz, it’s stories like this (and opinion columnists like Gideon Levy)! In fact, before I read Haaretz, I was a hardcore Zionist who believed everything the Anti-Defamation League told me about Israel. I even marched in the Parade for Israel. I was such a fool then and it took years of deprogramming to make me see the light.
Leah - Kudos to you for keeping your mind and heart committed to justice and humanity. It speaks volumes to a person’s integrity and character to be willing to read a different point of view, and then change their mind based on new facts and information. Good on you friend. Truly a powerful example you’re setting.
I strive to improve myself every day. I think what also really turned me against Israel (and this was part of my deprogramming) was not just what Haaretz was saying, but what right-wing Israelis were saying. It was basically “Europe were colonizers so why can’t we be colonizers?”. I was horrified and disgusted. I translated their Hebrew into English via Google Translate just to be sure (but to be fair, this abhorrent viewpoint is also in English in fascist rags such as the Jerusalem Post and th…
The savagery of 10/7 was designed to provoke A massive response and yahoo was all too happy to oblige. But If Netanyahu lost power today, what is next? Isn’t it true that Hamas is a jihadist organization that seeks the destruction of the Jewish people in Israel? Who will arise on the Palestinian side to work towards safety and security and hope for all people in the region?
Everytime an Israeli official is “interviewed”, the repetition of that tired old mantra “ Israel has the right to defend itself” renders them robotic and chilling. I struggle to understand how a people with their history, seem to lack any compassion whatsoever. During my role as a teacher, I worked in Special schools, with abused and disturbed children. What marked them out from “ normal school students” was their sensitivity and caring natures. It broke my heart because they had suffered, they…
Interesting experience you share, of people gaining empathy through hardship. That’s part of why I personally feel so psychologically connected to this struggle, as a white woman in the southern US. I was very shy and easily bullied as a child. I eventually overcame my shyness but the cruelty increased my empathy dramatically. I DID go through a short phase of being a bully myself, once I was a couple rungs up the ladder, but I saw the pattern as a 15 year old, and stopped it. Many others have …
Maine Governor Janet Mills is officially suing Donald Trump.
When she visited the White House recently, Trump singled her out in a room full of governors from both parties and threatened to withhold federal funding from Maine unless she caved to his personal demands. When she stood her ground, he declared, “I am the law,” ignoring both Co…
