I’m seeing a lot of interest in literature highlighting Gullah Geechee culture and I loveeee to hear it; but YALL, please be mindful; there are a lot of books written about Gullah Geechee culture by “non skin folk”. It’s extremely vital that we stop letting these people profit off of our culture by telling our stories. If you’re interested in literature highlighting the Gullah Geechee experience, written by Gullah Geechee and/or Black authors, here are some just to name a few:
1. Ron Daise
2. Cornelia Walker Bailey
3. Queen Quet (Marquetta L. Goodwine)
4. Gloria Naylor
5. Faith Mitchell
6. Julie Dash
7. Sallie Ann Robinson
8. Emory Campbell
9. Eden Royce
10. Sara Makeba Daise
11. Vertamae Smart-Grosvenor
12. Zora Neale Hurston
13. Thomas Barnwell
14. Trelani Michelle
