What I'm Thinking About This Morning 🎉: Celebrating One Year of WITATM
On January 3rd, 2024, I decided on a whim to write an Instagram post titled "What I'm Thinking About This Morning." I found the casual, 2,200-character format both gratifying and manageable. So, I kept going. By the end of January, I decided to make it part of my routine.
Fast forward to today: I’m pleased to report that I’ve written 249 WITATM posts—over 93,000 words!
I’m working on a Substack article reflecting on my content from 2024 and my goals for 2025, where I’ll dive deeper into my thoughts on WITATM. But in this post, I just want to celebrate.
Most of you know I’m a big fan of "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. To me, WITATM exemplifies how a small, consistent habit can significantly enhance one’s quality of life and result in something to be proud of. I now have 249 mini-essays capturing insights ranging from casual musings to profound reflections.
Over the last two days, I've spent an inordinate amount of time compiling all 249 posts into a single document. While I wish I had started cataloging these posts as I wrote them—an Atomic Habits lesson in itself—the process of formatting and organizing each one gave me a unique satisfaction. It felt like watching a highlight reel of 2024—each post and its accompanying visuals brought the year to life. The mix of intellectual and personal writing provided a meaningful snapshot of my thoughts and feelings over the course of an entire year.
A friend of mine once lamented that he wanted to write more but couldn’t find the time. I suggested an experiment: write one sentence a day about something he was learning or thinking about. He tried it and found it deeply fulfilling. Writing isn’t about the product or the audience as much as it’s about the process of expressing one’s thoughts. A regular writing practice transforms the writer and shapes their experience of life. I’ve always believed that, but now—after a full year of daily writing—I can say it with even greater conviction.
Thank you to those who have followed me on this journey, and a special thanks to those who react, comment, and share feedback! Here's to another year of thinking!
