Connect really profitable flight routes e.g. Melbourne to Sydney so we have great alternatives to flying.
Built at a reasonable cost. At least globally competitive value for money. $/km. If governments are going to print and borrow anyway at least do it for core infrastructure.
Built in a reasonable timeframe. Globally competitive timeframes km/time taken.
From all major city centres to other city centres via regional centres. Because the worst part about flying, other than the CO2, is getting to the airport and back out on the other side and customs.
Fast trains to the CBD, even with hybrid working, is a great way to reduce pressure on rental vacancies and house prices. Overall helping with price inflation.
I'm even ok with the rediculous cost of metro train expansion if we got fast rail like China.
Melbourne to Sydney... most profitable air route in the world.. CityLink which includes the tolls to the Melbourne airport makes Transurban approx 32% of it's revenue.
Opportunity to connect regional centres like Albury Wodonga on route.
Only the Chinese have the skills and technology to build it of course in 2023. US lost the skills 100 years ago (Google California fast rail), not the west, not Japan anymore.
