A new mouse study suggests exercise may reduce cancer growth by shifting metabolism so muscles use more glucose, leaving less available for tumors. Active mice showed much smaller breast cancer and melanoma tumors than sedentary ones. Exercise also lowered tumor activity of proteins like mTOR, which may restrict cancer cell growth. While encouraging, researchers say it’s still unclear if the same mechanisms apply to humans.
