Notes

Last week, just before the longest day of the year (summer solstice), I had an opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful places to view a sunset in Japan, Funakoshi Observatory in Kujukushima, Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture (長崎県佐世保市九十九島の船越展望所). The position of the sun at sunset varies throughout the year. From now until the third week of December, the sun will set in a more southerly position. The contrast between the view during the day and at sunset was dramatic.
