China's "solo-dweller economy" (独居经济 dú jū jīng jì) is exploding.
The numbers tell the story:
1990: 6% of households were single-person
2013: that rose to 14.6%
2018: 77 million adults living alone
Today: 123 million solo-dwellers
2030: Projected to hit 150-200 million!
That's twice the entire population of the UK right now, and adding another UK by the end of this decade!
And it's creating an entire economy, with products for solo living:
"Meal for one" (一人食)
"Group takeout" (拼好饭)
"Check-in apps" (签到软件)
So no wonder the check-in app, "Are You Dead?" (死了么), exploded this month!
The "solo-dweller economy" is becoming one of China's fastest-growing sectors.
From meal delivery to safety apps, Chinese businesses are racing to serve this expanding market.
What do you think?
A real opportunity, or another example of over-heated, opportunistic capital flowing blindly into the "next big thing"?
