Scientists have discovered that certain seeds can hear rain drops. And while the sound of rain tends to put us to sleep, it wakes seeds up and encourages them to germinate. Researchers at MIT put 7,860 grains of rice in shallow tubs of water and drip dropped water nearby. Seeds exposed to the sound of raindrops germinated 30 to 40% faster than silent seeds.
