Speed is all that matters — if you measure it right!

I have always believed there is no tradeoff between speed and quality in software. Shipping fast creates a tight feedback loop, which makes you improve faster and recover faster from mistakes.

All of this enables quality and stability.

But that’s only if you measure speed based on the work you actually ship.

Speed is not the amount of commits you make, or the amount of PRs. It’s not even about the amount of deployments.

Speed ultimately means minimizing the wall-clock time between when someone asks for something, and when they get it.

It’s about what the outside world experiences.

So, if you think you are fast, ask yourself: would your customers say the same?

Have a good start of the week! ☀️☕
