A message to our community:
Many people have raised the question of the Resistance Archives offering compensation for contributions. We genuinely understand the frustration around unpaid writing, and we share the broader concern about the devaluation of writers' labour.
We want to be transparent about our financial position. Since launching paid subscriptions on our Substack (priced at $8/month), we have generated approximately $300 in total revenue. Half of this has been directed toward fundraisers, and the remaining amount is split among a very small team of youth organizers.
We are not a revenue-generating outlet in any meaningful sense, and, as much as we would like to, we are not in a position to sustainably compensate contributors at this time. That is not a reflection of how we value the labour of writing (particularly on difficult and emotionally demanding topics) but rather the material limitations we are working within.
Our goal with this call for writers is to provide authors with a space to publish and circulate their work on a platform we have built from the ground up over the past year.
We are actively trying to build something that could one day offer fair compensation. We are deeply grateful to our paid subscribers, whose support directly sustains this project and helps us move closer to being able to compensate contributors. If you are in a position to do so, subscribing is one of the most meaningful ways to support this work.
The resistance archives team.
