š We all need to up our secure communications game. Hereās a simple tool to help you do that. šØ
The good people at Democracy Labs have created a tool that letās you encrypt a message using a secret key and then send that message to another person.
This is super easy to use. It relies on symmetric key encryption. That means you create and share the key with the intended recipient of your message. There are some caveats to keep in mind with this technique:
You should share the key using an already trusted, secure channel (e.g. Signal voice, in person meeting, etc.).
Donāt share the key and the encrypted message in the same channel.
Better yet: create multiple keys and only ever use a key once.
This method is not perfect. But it is better than nothing, is easy to learn and use, and is a good start to keeping sensitive communications with your fellow activists and organizers more secure.
