Jackie Kennedy married Aristotle Onassis in 1968 after the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy. The marriage ended her US Secret Service protection, which she knowingly gave up. They married on Onassis's private island, Skorpios, and lived largely separate lives between Europe and New York, often apart due to his business and her children. The marriage lasted until Onassis's death in 1975, after which Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis received a negotiated settlement of roughly $26 million rather than a major inheritance, due to Greek inheritance law and agreements with his daughter, Christina.
