To contrast, in many small churches I know of, the pastor is cleaning the church, taking care of facility issues, and managing the business of the church. Having the time to do the handful of things that are part of spiritual leadership often hits the back burner. The early Methodist society set this up with various stewards and trustees, and we have the example of deacons in the book of Acts that show a counter-balance to the spiritual leaders having apostolic margin.
