I’m going to say something that shouldn’t be controversial but will be. If you are a Christian, you can support border control and immigration being legal vs illegal. You CANNOT celebrate deportations and get off on the cruelty, and be a real Christ follower. Period

We live in a time that people are more inclined to obey an unlawful executive order than they are to follow a court order 🤦🏾‍♀️.

Dictators are created due to cruelty, cowardice, & compliance! IF THEIR ASSES will ignore the Supreme Court, we can definitely IGNORE HIM!

I think about this question a lot:

If I were the only picture my kids had of what it was like to follow Jesus, what would they learn?

Could I say to them, follow me as I follow Christ? (see 1 Cor. 11:1)

It’s a sobering yet simplified guide for living.

Sometimes, when he fails badly enough, Trump can be forced to do the thing he says he never does: back down.

Today is just one more turn on the roller coaster - but it is more evidence of why we can't give up or let up.

Remember, Trump is calculating with a manipulative shrewdness. He did the pope pic to turn the media attention away from all the bad polls around his 100 day failure. He wants to turn us away from the terrible things in his budget. Trump’s position & Vance’s policies are diametrically opposed to Catholic social teaching, to Scripture, & to Jesus.

To media: don’t spend time on the pic. Religious leaders: don’t let interviews be about the pic. Pivot back to how his budget wil be deadly, destructiv…

sometimes i wonder how many versions of myself i’ve outgrown without even noticing. i look back at old photos and remember the thoughts i used to carry, the dreams i thought would save me. it’s strange how you can live inside yourself every day and still not realize you’re evolving. it’s only when you look back that you realize how far you’ve come, how many lives you’ve already lived in the same skin.

Meanwhile over here in Australia, you know, that big ole country down under…hello anyone? Can you hear us?

We, the Australian people, elected a Labor government for the second term yesterday.

This is BIG news!

It was a landslide vote against an increasingly scary, far-right Liberal party. A party that was set to act from Trumps playbook.

We said NO! We voted for us. And we voted for you too America. You’re welcome.

I am at a loss for words that adequately describe how vile and nauseating all of this is.

Mark, what you said.......just unbelievable.

Rex Page (Left Coast)'s avatar

Unfortunately, it is entirely believable. Expected, even, for any state in the Confederacy and several outside the Confederacy. Republicans will exert every lever of power they have to preserve white domination of government at all levels.

Rex, the south is still practicing apartheid.

Dear Commenters,

Let's not get too carried away with our South-bashing and try to remember that some truly fine people live there alongside the bigoted haters and they are working hard to effect positive change. Check out Kyle Whitmire and J.D. Crowe at al.com if you don't believe me. Also Patrick Skinner (Skinnerpm) on Twitter. The South has many problems as does the rest of our poor benighted land but at least the weather is generally warm and so are the people.

WILLIAM CASH's avatar

Yes, there are many fine people there, just as there were fine people in the Confederacy, but as long as they keep electing bigots for their government, those fine people aren't accomplishing much. They aren't making reasonable laws, so should we accept the bigotry of the leaders because there are fine people living there?

“Many fine people” doesn’t cut it. What matters is the percentage of fine people, and that percentage is not high enough in the South (and many states in the North, too) to effectively combat systemic racism. The incident that prompted this discussion occurred in Tennessee, and only the naïve are surprised by this latest example of injustice perpetrated by the legislatiors that the white people In Tennessee put in office.

Rio Bravo. By far my favourite movie.

It struck me that I have a Rio Bravo mug and movie poster in my office. Until you posed the question I hadn't even realised how much I love that movie. But I do.
