A new study shows that AI can make less creative people more creative.

It included 3 different groups of writers:

1. Human only

2. Human + 1 gen AI idea

3. Human + 5 gen AI ideas

All participants were given a task beforehand to assess their creativity skills. The people who were least creative benefitted the most and the people who were most creative benefitted least.

Collectively, the use of AI reduced the overall creativity of all of the group’s work.

tl;dr : use of generative AI points to an increase in individual creativity but increases the risk of losing collective novelty.
