How to reset your social media algorithms
As mentioned on KFI – Wednesday, March 11, 2026
If your social media feeds feel repetitive or stuck showing the same kinds of posts, you can reset or retrain the algorithm on most major platforms. Here’s how to do it.
Instagram
Go to Profile → Menu (three lines) → Content preferences → Reset suggested content.
This clears your recommendations so Instagram can relearn what you like.
TikTok
Go to Profile → Menu → Settings and privacy → Content preferences → Refresh your For You feed.
This resets the For You page so TikTok starts recommending a wider mix of videos again.
Facebook
There’s no full reset button, but you can retrain the feed:
Tap the three dots on posts → Not interested, unfollow accounts you don’t want to see, and add favorites for people you want to see more often.
X (formerly Twitter)
Tap the Following tab instead of For You to see posts only from accounts you follow in chronological order.
You can also tap the three dots on posts → Not interested in this post to improve recommendations.
Tip: After a reset, the apps will quickly relearn your interests based on what you watch, like, comment on, and skip. So be intentional with what you interact with.
