A quick introduction. I’m Robert Essig. I am a horror author, as well as a husband and father, a collector of vintage horror paperbacks, a novice drummer, a lover of nature, and a horror movie fanatic—mostly pre-90’s though. I have been writing since I was in high school at the tail end of the nineties but only started getting published in 2008, beginning with short stories until my first novel was published in 2012. I have published over 30 books, over 120 short stories, and edited three anthologies. I have been nominated for three Splatterpunk Awards, two for best novella and one for best anthology.
I did not choose horror. Horror chose me through the Scooby Doo cartoons, Garbage Pail Kids, Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery”, Stephen King’s Night Shift collection, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween—both the film and the season, A Night on Bald Mountain, The horror section at ma & pa video stores, Fangoria Magazine, The Twilight Zone, H. P. Lovecraft, heavy metal imagery, and much more.
The road of publishing is a long one with many obstacles, twists and turns, and debris blocking the path, but I’m on it, I’m committed, and I’m not going anywhere.
