What 20th Century writers do you think are doomed to literary oblivion in the decades to come? . . . . I’m thinking John Updike, John Cheever (already in oblivion, perhaps), Norman Mailer. I worry about Anthony Powell. Christopher Isherwood, an amazing writer, I fear has received his sentence of obscurity. Muriel Spark is another fine writer, likely hit with the big literary sleep.
