I would like to share something about myself. I share this because trumf has decided my job is no longer considered a professional degree.
I am a 40 year emergency room nurse.
I have missed family parties, holidays, vacations, birthdays, anniversaries, my kids school events, and even funerals. I've worked 8 hour shifts that turned to 12 or 16 hour shifts to only return the next day and do it again. Answer your phone at 4 in the morning to come in on your day off or come in early. Ive gone in at 9am to only leave at 2am. I've learned to go without eating and lots of times-drinking during my shifts. I've learned to keep life savers in my pockets to keep me going. I've gone home at times and truly could not remember if I had peed that day.
These are the sacrifices EVERY healthcare provider makes. I have dealt with pediatric homicides and horrific cases of child abuse, suicides, accidents, attempted suicides, psychiatric emergencies, car and sporting accidents, traumatic work injuries, cardiac and respiratory arrests, and domestic abuse. I worked daily throughout Covid, which the average person fails to understand the absolute terror that it caused in every 1st responder. Afraid to to to work and afraid to go home. I've held the hands of dying patients who could only identify humanity by sound of a muffled voice.
I am the first face you see on your worst day. I will continue to be that face that comforts, explains, and educates you.
I make a difference in your life, and many patients will always live in my memories and heart. Nurses are born, not made. God only entrusts the best do his work not because we are perfect but because we give 100%, and always follow our ethical and moral boundaries.
We continue daily to give the best care regardless of age, religion, race, party. It is not my job to judge- thats above my pay grade.
We will never be paid what we are truly worth! Nursing is not a job that one would pick for financial gain😂. I would never want to do anything else.
I am so insulted, angry, and frustrated that an uneducated, unstable person made this decision to devalue the profession to limit access to funding for nursing programs.
My final thought is when he has his next medical emergency I hope every nurse is at lunch, and the first face he sees is the CEO!
