Amazon (AMZN) owns an estimated 15% to 19% of Anthropic, creators of AI model Claude.

Claude is distinguished by its safety-first architecture, exceptional coding proficiency and a unique capability to interact with computer interfaces as a human would.

Amazon initially invested $1.25 billion in Anthropic back in September 2023, followed by $2.75 billion in March 2024 to complete a $4 billion commitment. It then doubled its stake by investing an additional $4 billion later in 2024.

While Amazon has invested a total of $8 billion, as of February 2026, Amazon's stake is valued at approximately $60.6 billion. This follows Anthropic's massive Series G funding round that valued the company at $380 billion.

Great investment!

As the chart below demonstrates, Antrhopic is only just getting started in terms of scaling.

Anthropic uses Amazon’s AWS as its primary cloud provider for safety research and future foundation model development.

Anthropic also uses Amazon's custom-designed chips, including Trainium and Inferentia, to train and deploy its AI models.
