I just saw the scale. I've put on four pounds in the last two months. Ugh.
And it's all due to an unfounded assumption.
Here's what happened.
I injured my foot in early May.
That meant I had to stop running and stop my daily walks.
This made my sleep worse.
The tiredness made me even more sedentary.
Every time I tried to get back to my walking and running routines, I'd feel pain in my foot later on.
This went on for six weeks.
Finally, I went to the doctor and discovered that I had sprained the joint connecting my foot to my big toe.
Had I known this I would have gotten treatment sooner and recovered faster.
I could have avoided the fatigue and the weight gain.
What was my assumption?
It's just pain. Walk it off.
When life showed that my idea was incorrect, I ought to have seen the doctor, but instead, I waited six weeks to discover the truth.
The lesson: Test your assumptions. Then pivot quickly when you're wrong.
