The Tate feels like a living place, not a shrine....where people can be awed, playful, messy, and still have real encounters with serious work.
If contemporary art isn’t allowed to be experimental and risky, it just gets quietly “managed” into history. Art is a public force again, not just another cultural product.
My favourite modern art museums:
US: MoMA + Whitney (NYC), Guggenheim (NYC), MOCA + The Broad + LACMA (Los Angeles), SFMOMA (San Francisco), MCA Chicago (Chicago), Hirshhorn (DC).
Europe: Tate Modern + Whitechapel (England), Centre Pompidou + Palais de Tokyo (France), MAXXI (Italy), Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Italy).
South America: MALBA (Buenos Aires), MASP (São Paulo), Inhotim (Brazil), MAM Rio (Rio), MAMBO (Bogotá).
