The upshot is that initial Saudi successes in blunting the UAE’s regional drive will be difficult to deepen and consolidate. But unless they are, they probably cannot be sustained. In the view of Hussein Aboubakr Mansour, “the UAE and Israel can jointly reshape regional political geography over Saudi objections, exposing the limits of Riyadh’s veto power in the very corridor most proximate to Saudi strategic interests.”
