The app for independent voices

It really seems to me that all the men involved in creating/investing/backing AI — and to a certain extent, many of the tech journalists who are supposed to hold those people to account — have never taken care of another human being in any serious, sustained way before. The notion that humans are, at a fundamental level, caregivers is just completely left out of these AI-will-replace-us narratives.

These people seem to exist exclusively in an analytical/intellectual/cerebral mode. I have come to think of them as spiritually impoverished. They have little conception of the full suite of capabilities that humans have access to, and the ways that caregiving tends to open those up in really surprising ways. (I’m thinking nervous system co-regulation, empathy, compassion, the disarming power of being silly, to name a few.)

All of this is another way of saying: I would absolutely love to see AGI attempt to get my toddler to put his shoes on.
