Ohio House Speaker Matt Huffman has been scouring the state for legislative candidates who will, above all else, bend to his will when the time comes, including former longtime Democrats.

Huffman seems to have found his man in Ohio House District 39, a seat that will be vacated by Ohio House Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore Phil Plummer (R-Vandalia), who is running for State Senate in District 5.

Sources say Huffman is backing Huber Heights Councilman Mark Campbell for the job.

Most interestingly, Campbell has a staunch record of voting Democratic in the not-too-distant past.

Voter records obtained by The Rooster show that Campbell voted in the Ohio Democratic primaries in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020.

That would mean he almost certainly voted against Donald Trump in the 2016 and 2020 elections.

Only time will tell how this information will play among Republican primary voter sin House District 39.
