I asked my Mum to translate ‘resilient’ into te reo Māori. She suggested kiri tuna = ‘eel skin’, i.e. someone who is tough and resilient.

She then offered further creaturely kupu regarding being less prickly:

‘hetiheti mārie = harmonious hedgehog

hetiheti āio = tranquil hedgehog’

Uncurl yourself, friend, let your spines flatten, be the tranquil hedgehog
