I kept getting woken in the night by an insect crawling on me. First it crawled on my face, then I feel back to sleep; then it crawled on my arm, then I fell back to sleep; then it crawled on my foot, and when that happened I woke up and swept it aside with my hand. I lay there in the dark trying to assess the probable identity of the insect by the remembered feel of its feet. I was worried it was a wasp that could sting me or a spider that could bite me, so I turned on the light and this is what I saw: a sizeable wētā clinging to the curtain at the foot of the bed.
