The New Statesman is one of the great magazines in the world, and I’m excited to announce I have the cover story there this week on Zohran Mamdani, whom I interviewed and profiled. There are a few “firsts” here. One, I’ve never had a full magazine cover story before (very cool it’s happening in the UK). Two, my conversation with Zohran for NS was the first time we had ever spoken on the record for a piece of journalism I was working on. I sought to not quote him as an assemblyman, given our relationship, but now that he’s a plausible mayor-to-be, that’s less avoidable.
If you live in the UK, this issue will be pretty much wherever periodicals are sold. All the WH Smiths! Ah, if only I could be there, strolling the aisles.
Rents, commutes and prices are so humiliating that I wonder if I’m meant to go about graduate London in leather and zips. A “relentless focus on affordability” sounds good to me. And Zohran is winning, for now at least. A fascinating, hopeful cover by the brilliant Ross Barkan. Link below:
