The trouble with Zionism, ultimately, is that enforced ethnonationalism and democracy are inherently contradictory. The United States, for all its flaws, does not write into its Constitution that we are a Christian country that must maintain a white Christian majority. I am an American Jew—proud to be Jewish, proud, still, to be from this very flawed country. Israel fills me with no pride at all. There’s a government I didn’t elect that committed a genocide in Gaza. It's running an apartheid regime in the West Bank. That’s it.
