I appreciate that the two best novelists I’ve read on Los Angeles Matthew Specktor and Bruce Wagner are both very much with us and still writing. Between AMERICAN DREAM MACHINE and a number of Wagner’s novels—can’t go wrong with DEAD STARS, ROAR, THE MARVEL UNIVERSE—you’ve got a single city and culture captured in fiction better than just about anywhere else.
