Members of European Parliament have granted themselves a €359 bonus if they attend events on ‘Europe day’ 9 May. MEPs normally only get this ‘daily attendance allowance’ when they are carrying out parliamentary work. Yet even then they can just show up, claim the money, and go home, I know from experience.
