I wish the conversation were about how to provide protection of Innuit and other Arctic people FROM all of the southern colonial governments (Russia, United States, Canada, Denmark), and not pretending any of these Eurocentric governments are the one protecting the Arctic region and its peoples from those southern colonial governments.

It is false to claim that Russia and the United States are the “bad guys”, and Canada and Denmark are the “good guys”. All these foreign entities are problematic and need to be protected from.

The Western Eurocentric maps center the Atlantic ocean, and confuse so many people as to where different lands and peoples are.

For instance, the colonialism represented by the Russian extension into Northern Asia and the British Empire’s extension into what they called North America (now the United States and Canada) are close neighbours.

Arctic focused maps, such as one provided by the Inuit Circumpolar Council, make this obvious.
