Trump doesn't understand Putin or his mindset. Putin is willing to pay any price, including massive slaughter of his own people to gain full control of Ukraine; to him, that's just a cost.

Trump can't grasp why anyone would accept that.

But Putin understands Trump perfectly. He knows Trump craves personal credit for ending the war, and the Nobel Peace Prize. Putin won't give him that satisfaction.
