Tangible books preserve the past and the mind. Our home has 17 bookshelves on different floors, our oldest dictionary is from 1859 (and has superb definitions), and we built a little library on our front lawn where people can freely bring and take books. One of my favourite past times is cruising used book stores. My newest finds from yesterday: Charles Lamb’s Prose and Poetry and Living in Truth by Vaclav Havel.

"I cannot emphasize enough: buy an old dictionary. Buy a Bible, or other religious texts that are of your tradition. Buy books, actual books that you and your children can hold in your hands to remind you of what is real. Because the written word is forever. It cannot be altered. That is why books are banned and burned. "
