Get kids used to simple joys that don’t necessarily cost money. A walk in the woods is free, so is time at the playground, time spent playing, building, cooking, reading…One of our favorite things to do when the kids were young, was to simply walk to the library and stop for a hot chocolate. Who ever came up with the idea that you have to kill the bank or go to far-away exotic places? This just results in financial stress and children who don’t know how to enjoy themselves…

I feel like there is more of an expectation these days for families to take trips, and cool trips, than there was when I was growing up. My family never went away for fall break or spring break, and only took summer vacation trips every few years. But now it feels like your answer to “What are you doing for spring break?” should be a compelling one, else you’re not living your best life.
