As rich in collaboration as it may be, film isn’t just about mastering technique in black-and-white. It is the journey of bringing something to life in colour, however off the hues might be.

For that is what makes them truly human.

Instead, most film education, whether in schools or someone teaching themselves online, is centered around technique. How to use the camera, how to light a face, how to structure a script, how to execute an idea efficiently. Those things matter, of course, but they shouldn’t be the starting point. Because knowing how to make something doesn’t help much if you don’t yet know what you’re trying to express.
