Anthropic has spent the past few years teaching Claude to follow instructions. This week, it tried to teach the private markets the same trick.

The company published an unusually direct notice unauthorized sales of Anthropic stock. The gist was: if you bought shares without approval from Anthropic’s board, congratulations on your interesting piece of paper. Anthropic does not think you own Anthropic stock.

In other words, a lot of people may have woken up to discover that their “Anthropic exposure” was less pre-IPO gold rush and more financial fan fiction with wire instructions.
