One thing that irks me about the discussion about Jesse Lonis’s big fold is a refrain suggesting people should not mock bad plays from good poker players. Jesse has very good results and one should think about why he made such a big fold, but they’re still allowed to think about it and say the fold stinks.
In poker (and other fields) it's possible for enthusiasts or less accomplished players to provide insights or analysis that top experts might miss. In the calendar year since I've started Punt of the Day, I've recieved several comments and corrections that have reframed how I think about a hand. If you're of the opinion that railbirds should be curious about why an expert does something, even if they think it's wrong. The same curiosity and democratic spirit should apply the other way, I've learned a lot of lessons from poker players worse than me. A knee jerk appeal to Lonis's results can mirror the same lack of curiosity as a knee jerk appeal to loling at the guy who just got bluffed.
