I realized today that I don’t especially like difficult video games.
That’s surprising to me (and to the friends I’ve told about this discovery), because I play most video games on their hardest difficulty.
What I do like is actually playing the game that some cool artist designed.
The first time I played the Witcher 3, I missed the healing potion tutorial and never crafted a potion for the entirety of the game. That is a core pillar of the Witcher that I completely ignored, because – if I wasn’t struggling in combat – there was no reason for me to touch it.
When I replayed the game, I played on Death March, and engaging with crafting became absolutely essential.
It turns out, the game is loads more fun if you’re using all of the systems designed to create a complete experience.
I’m playing Vampyr right now. It’s a lot better than I thought it was. Play it on “Hard”.
