Thanks to Paul Musso, PhD ‘s idea about bringing a book to the gym, I started reading Emily Dickinson poems on my phone during my rest periods between sets.
There’s something satisfying, and slightly ironic, about deadlifting heavy weight and then applying that rush of endorphins to the close reading of a short poem.
And it sure beats endlessly refreshing my email and social feed as I wait for my 4-minute timer to sound.
