The app for independent voices

This article is almost a field test of things I’ve written about in two essay series, Reaching the Right and The American Oligarchy.

What he describes in the room is not really a coherent ideology so much as grievance, distrust, and conditioned group reactivity. That is the psychological side of the trap. The larger political side is the environment that helped build it: Years of manipulation, donor-safe politics, outrage media, and incentive structures that reward confusion, fear, and obedience over thought.

That is why arguing with the mass so rarely works. By the time people are fully absorbed into that state, the group tends to behave as a dangerous stochastic force. The real openings usually come only when individuals hit their own breaking points and can no longer keep the contradictions sealed off.
