I’m reading about authors spending their time proving via social media channels that they are writing and not using AI. I have a couple of thoughts about this:
If it helps people become more aware of how much hard work goes into a book, this is good.
If it distracts authors from writing for too long, and leads to witch hunts with people being accused all over the place of using AI (which itself is an overarching term for lots of different things) then this is bad.
As usual, it’s complicated. And most of all we need to keep these discussions civil and nuanced and not let the fear of the unknown overtake us - we can use what’s happening to try to imagine how we can lessen the stress for authors rather than adding more. And it starts with us all shouting out about how much we value human authored stories and humanly conceptualised worlds.
