The home for great culture

This is awful. Please put it back. đŸ˜«

You keep saying Substack is not social media and you make it more like traditional socials every month. đŸ«Ł

Unsurprisingly the “Read Next” posts are publications that have high sub counts and I am not paying for. Same as what I see on Instagram. Of course Substack wants to increase revenue, but I am sad the chronological inbox is not the main space any more.

It takes executive function to tap to another feed and most people will get stuck on the shiny new front page and miss publications Substack doesn’t promote. This happened on YouTube about 10 years ago and it’s why all the YouTubers now ask you to “tap the bell” because they stopped showing videos you had subbed to.

This is why it is not wise to go “all in” on any single platform. You don’t “own your list” as Substack says when subs read on the app. Substack has control of whether they even see your posts. AND when they pay through Substack it’s even harder to move without losing revenue.

I was going to change my paid offering this week and now seriously questioning that.

I think I will start treating Substack like a newsletter again as I don’t like the changes they continue making.

I’m not a happy camper today.
