Aegidius Romanus, the doctor of the Augustinian Order and student of St. Thomas for 13 years, makes the point that St. Thomas' supremacy is shown from the fact that he was so constant in his positions throughout his entire life,

"A manifest sign of the intellectual subtlety and true judgment of this wonderful doctor, so worthy of our remembrance, Friar Thomas of Aquino, is that, with few exceptions, he altered neither in his teaching nor in his writings as a master the determinations and arguments that he originated as a bachelor."
